Fun Week With a Lot Going On!

Fun visit from Brittany and Ariel!!

Hello!
Fun week with a lot going on! Wednesday Sister Chen and I went on exchanges to take a Mandarin motor coach! So we took 15 of them around. Then right after that West Gate told us that 20 more people randomly showed up! So they asked us if we could take that one too. It was so fun but it was also really tiring. Poor Sister Chen had to do the whole thing because I don't know Mandarin! haha
We had so much to do Thursday but luckily we could finish all the morning stuff by 1pm so we could call our awesome investigator! She is so faithful and totally prepared. She has been having a hard time with her daughter but we have been able to help her. It has been so fun teaching her the past couple weeks.
We got to go to a baptism on Friday! Two sisters in our Zone had been teaching her this transfer and she is Mongolian. So during the whole thing there was a translator! Haha! It was so cool. Mongolian is such a unique language.
I just remembered that Friday was also one of the most stressful days I’ve had while on my mission! We have to assign Zones to do "van maintenance" every Saturday. We don’t have many drivers in our mission right now so most zones will have to do the maintenance twice. But there were sisters in one of the zones that got super upset! They kept emailing and calling us about it. I’m the one carrying the phone so I had to handle all of it! hahah Anyways, it is just interesting how people got mad about that! So funny.
Sister Wong and I took two ENGLISH motor coaches on Saturday! It was so fun. The first group had 45 people and they asked us SO MANY questions! It was awesome! Later in the afternoon it started to pour rain, so fun!
There were a lot of members on the Square yesterday probably because of Memorial Day. We met a few great families.
So with my past few companions we have been helping this guy named ***** who lives here in SLC come back to church and stuff. I think I mentioned a few months ago how he had just gotten out of jail and is doing so awesome. Well he is doing GREAT! He wrote me this email last week and it was super random and hilarious.... But despite the emoticons, it is very touching---
Hi sister Jarvey. It was very enjoyable to spend a few minutes with you and join your tour on sunday. I always like to see the joy and happy lives that you and your sister missionaries have; serving the lord and spreading the gospel with your service and charity. Your testimony is beautiful and I admire the way that you share it. The way that it is, that it is the truth, and as you teach the people that do not know about the gospel they are visibly inspired and touched by the spirit through you. You will have blessings and rewards forever for the souls that you touch each daily. In the miracle of forgiveness Pres. Kimball teaches that we will be blessed by sharing our testimonies, and that our testimonies are a blessing in themselves. Good job, I am so proud to be your friend. Thank you for your friendship, you also do much good in my life. You have made me happy and inspired and strengthened me to do right and get myself right with the lord and the church when I was weak and falling. So I now have the spirit and Holy Ghost daily in my life, maybe not as strong as you but... Well I hope you are good and happy”
: Hahah he is so awesome! Well, we’re going to go now---it’s pday, and we’re going to Cheesecake Factory tonight!!
---another transfer is coming to an end. This week is going to be insane getting all the transportation and everything ready for transfers...pray for us! And send us gift cards for food! hahha jk

What a Great Week!!!

General Conference

Hello!  What a great week! Every Tuesday we get to INDEX! I love it so much. We get to do it again tomorrow. But the whole rest of the day I just kept thinking about how fun it is. I think that is all I want to do when I get home haha. Anyways, the Church is really working on finishing the 1940 US census, it’s a big project. Of course with the Family Search center right next to us, we hear a lot about it. So fun to help!

That same night I saw Alex Lovin! Haha I was waiting for Sister Wong to come out of the restroom and Alex just walks up. It was so good to see her! I also saw Brittany and Ariel this week at City Creek! SO good to see my fellow fairies. I miss the Sweet Tooth Fairy so much! I was so happy to see some of my best friends this week and hear that they are doing so well.

Yesterday was such a good day. I guess it is pretty common here on Temple Square during the summer for us to leave church right after taking the sacrament because of all the motor coaches that are arriving. We had to be at West Gate at 8am yesterday to wait for a group of 60 Mandarin speakers. Sister Feng from China gave the tour and Sister Wong and I did the contacting. I love those people from China so much, I can’t wait to go visit after my mission!

Sister Wong has been teaching a guy from Sudan that was a member referral. He came to visit the Square yesterday with his family! They are really the cutest family ever. And they are so beautiful! So humble and he knows this Church is true. I hope they get baptized.

Today we had a teaching appointment with a lady I met on chat a month ago. She wanted us to help her daughter who lives here but we couldn't really do anything except give her the local bishops’ number. Anyways, this lady is great! We taught her today and she knows everything is true and that God is watching out for her. She agreed to meet with missionaries and she even accepted our invitation to get baptized! So hopefully the elders get to her soon. This is the perfect time for her to learn the meaning of life!

Anyways, it has been a great week!
Love you!

Heavenly Father Has a Plan....

General Conference, April 2012

Today we are going to have a zone activity! We are all really excited. Sister Wong and I will go pick up the pizzas soon then go back to the Square and watch a movie with the whole zone. We all voted this last week but I think the winner will be to watch Tangled. Everyone here loves it and I have never seen it.

It was so fun to call home for Mothers day yesterday! What a perfect gift!

On Friday we had a mission meeting early in the morning. President Gillette is such a teaser! He was saying he had a big surprise for us. That we would be hearing from an apostle!! Everyone was so shocked. Then he said the bad news-- that it is on video! hahah It was a great talk by Elder Holland when he spoke at the MTC in January 2011. It was super inspiring! I love the way he teaches because he teaches with power and authority in a way that seems to be so natural.

Saturday was super super busy day. It started at 5:40am when we got a call from a sister saying they had locked the keys in the car while they were washing it. The car sat in the parking lot of the COB (Church Office Building) all weekend until this morning when they opened and gave us the spare key. Then we gave the Fleet training to the 1st transfer sisters. We played a really funny video at the start to wake them up a little. It was great and probably my last Fleet training for newly authorized drivers!

Elder and Sister Zwick spoke to us on Sunday! That is the second time I've heard him speak on my mission because he came to the MTC too. He said so many great things. Touching a heart to act is the most important thing we can do. We went up to meet them after and I told them that their son used to be in my ward in Newport Beach. Sister Zwick gave me a big hug, it was so great to have them come to speak to us. What a treat!

Sister Wong and I got to cover for announcing yesterday. Since Sister Au-Yeung and I were in charge of that they have gotten new signs that are seriously so huge! It was fun to do that again though. It is great this time of the year because of the nice warm weather.

So early this morning we went to go get the car from the COB when it opened. Usually when we go it’s during the middle of the day so we have our makeup and missionary clothes on. But it was early, so I wasn't ready yet.. We walk in and our friend Melissa that works there said “oh wow, you look....comfy.” Hahaha It was just a funny thing that happened today.

This Church is true.  It’s so fun to learn about it!  Honestly I never knew very much, but I’ve learned so much this last year.  I’m so much more happy too, which is cool!  Heavenly Father has a plan...

 Love you so much!

Sister Wong and I Are Having a Blast Together!

Sister Wong (Hawaii) and Sister Jarvie
Aloha,
I feel that my emails are so redundant but we were so busy with Fleet this week! On Wednesday we met with Brother Edwards in the Department of Safety or something at the Church Office Building. He wanted us to test a safety program they might use in the Fleet program for all the missions in the world that have cars. He had us each test it and then we met with him again on Friday and gave him our feedback and they might be looking at other options as well. Safety first!

Also, one of our favorite security guards at Temple Square taught us some self defense tactics while we were at desk. He used to work as an interrogator! So cool!

On Friday we had to turn in all the car reports so we got to meet with another person in the Church Office Building who is in charge with Fleet, Brother Ott. He said he will come this week to our office to audit us. Yikes! Hopefully we have everything right. We will be working on that this week. He is a great guy! We are excited for him to help us get everything in order!

We got to contact a Mandarin Motor Coach tour!!! Sister Zhang from China and Sister Lo from Hong Kong taught us things to say in Mandarin. So when we introduced ourselves we also said "I love China" in Mandarin and they all clapped! Haha it was so fun! They kept taking pictures of us. I have been learning a lot! At the end of every Motor Coach tour with people from China we let each of them take a Chinese Book of Mormon for free. It is so amazing to see all these faithful people want to learn who God is. I am so happy that we can give them a Book of Mormon to take back to China with them.

We took a Youth Conference tour on Saturday. There were 5 companionship's there to equally divide all the youth but we ended up with 4 youth and 6 adults. Hahah it was good to have a small group because you took them through God's Plan for His Family. They weren't playing games on their cell phones the whole time (I am talking about the adults mind you), and I think the youth really liked it! Hopefully they were able to see why preparing now to go through the temple is important.

On Saturday Elder and Sister Watson from my home stake visited me!  They are so awesome!  They are just starting their mission and came up from the MTC to visit Temple Square!

I am so happy with Sister Wong! She is such a good missionary and I am learning a lot from her! It is great to see how much we learn because she is still in her 3rd transfer but she’s so great! We are having a blast together.

LOVE,
Sister Jarvie
